Sunday 1st November 2020

We are sad to inform you that we are cancelling all our events during November (Film Week, Guy Fawkes, Winter Watch and Open Space) following the announcement yesterday of a second national lockdown. We will contact all those booked to come on each event individually but please be patient as this will take a little time. The Advent Weekend that was due to run for the last weekend of November (27-29th) has been moved to the first weekend of December (4-6th), we will have to keep this under review in case the lockdown period is extended. The Youth Weekend has also moved to the 11-13th December. During the lockdown period we will not be open for visitors unfortunately but hope you will return to Othona as soon as it is possible. We will keep you updated and aim to put up Chapel services... Read More

We are now listed on the Association for Promoting Retreats (APR) website (http://www.promotingretreats.org/finding-a-retreat/east-anglia/). If you would like to come and stay with us for a self-led retreat but are unable to afford the full cost then you may be eligible to apply for their bursary scheme (http://www.promotingretreats.org/bursary-fund/) which can help with up to 50% of the costs. In addition as a thank you to NHS staff they are offering bursaries to NHS workers to stay at one of their APR registered retreats (http://www.promotingretreats.org/nhs-bursaries/). Sunday 18th October 2020, 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Autumn has arrived and the nights are drawing in.  It’s time to take stock of the summer bounty and harvest the hedgerows. We would like to invite you to take part in a convivial Virtual event where we can meet to share ideas and experiences on the theme of “Harvest”.  As with the Flower show and Art week it will be very informal, and participation is very much encouraged.   ... Please find attached in the link below an interesting article from Dave and Margaret Hart. It's about an ex-Lifeboat called St Cedd that acted as an escort boat whilst Dave was a volunteer at the Essex Youth Sailing Centre at Bradwell Waterside. Dave was involved with the Community here through his work with boats and helped repair a boat belonging to the warden here at that time. Hopefully some of you may remember him from then.

There are new events now on programme for the Autumn/Winter period so please take a look: https://www.othonaessex.org.uk/events-listing. Here are a few of the many comments we have received from those staying during the summer:

Many of you will remember David Buck, who was a long-term part of the Othona Community and the inspiration behind the Peace Garden. We were very sad to hear that he had recently passed away and our thoughts and prayers are with Gillian, his wife, and the rest of his family. Gillian let us know that;
