We are sad to announce the death of Henry Savill, who for many years was a trustee of the Community. It was through meeting Henry in 1961 as a new member of his congregation at Navestock that Norman Motley discovered that East hall Farm was up for sale and which set in motion the purchase of the farm. In September 2018 we hosted Survivors Together, a group for female survivors of sexual abuse (www.survivorstogether.co.uk). This group is run by Yvonne Fletcher with the aim of providing a safe space for women survivors to socialise and try out new activities. The group celebrated its ten anniversary last year. The women really appreciated coming to spend some relaxing time together at Othona and there was a feature in their 2018 general review on what coming to Othona means to them. Last year was their third visit to Othona and we were again able to provide some financial support to enable all of the group to come here. They will be returning again this September for a few days and hopefully the group will find this an equally relaxing... Read More

We were privileged to be visited on January 30th 2019 by the Chairman of Maldon District Council (MDC), Cllr Henry Bass and Communications Officer, Chris Voisey. Cllr Bass came to Othona to find out more about the Community and what happens here as part of a wider plan to visit various businesses, organisations and local community groups in the Maldon district to show support and promote the district as a great place to live, work and enjoy. They were able to hear from our Warden, Tim about the history of the Community and had a tour of the site. Cllr Bass was very impressed by the work going on here and our varied programme and we are hoping to work more closely with MDC in future to promote Othona to the wider community. Please read the report from Chris which will shortly be... Read More

This was an opportunity for anyone staying here during the week to come along and hear a little of the history of Othona, to ask questions, hear about plans, share views and find out how to join in more. A summary of the discussions at the meeting is attached and also available in the news section of our website.
