July 1985, the ‘global jukebox’ that was Live Aid was watched by an approximate 1.9 billion people in Wembley, the JFK stadium in Philadelphia, many other venues around the world and by satellite link on television. The brainchild of Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise awareness and money for the Ethiopian famine, it took its place as the single biggest concert ever.
To celebrate 40 years since the event, Simon and Sarah Thompson will lead you in some of the iconic songs from the show. From amazing bands to amazing soloists, the sounds of the 80s will be recreated through the week. Whether you want to come and sing, listen or bring your instruments and play, we will be having a lot of fun recreating that amazing day – as Bowie sang, ‘We can be heroes, just for one’….week!
