Place, Space and Map Making Workshop

Art workshop run by mixed media artist Sandie Cottee

Monday 16th September -  Friday 20th September 2024

Space is available on this event

Othona offers the perfect location for a workshop that will connect with place and space. We will explore the local surroundings, sketching, taking photos, and taking time to be mindful and present in the moment. We will connect with the environment, using nature, time, and opportunities to be creative. Sandie will provide resources and materials and offer ideas and invitations to take part in a variety of different activities. Weather permitting, we will use the local surroundings, as well as having a large indoor space where we will have plenty of room to experiment and be creative. We will share ideas, and there will be the opportunity for print making, painting, and trying out new things. There will be a plan for each morning, and after lunch there will be flexibility. You will be invited to continue working on your individual projects or you are welcome to bring your own work and to focus on that.
There will be an underlying theme of connecting with place and space, and throughout the week you will be invited to gather ideas, sketches, and thoughts that can come together to create a unique and personal concertina map book. This will provide a memory of this special place and no creative or artist skills are needed. There is much evidence to demonstrate that art and creativity are good for our health and wellbeing. Sandie will offer gentle guidance and ideas; and this will be a time to come together, breathe, and to go at your own pace. We hope you will join us. Please feel free to contact Sandie if you would like further information or to check out details:withsandie@outlook.com

Sandie Cottee is a local artist with an eclectic style. She loves walking, exploring new places, taking photos, and making books. Her work often combines these elements with mixed media to create art journals, memory books, collages, maps and much more. Sandie is a former mental health nurse who has used her skills in the workplace, introducing others to art and creativity in a relaxed and experimental way. She loves sharing time with others in creative pursuits and has a long experience of running creative and writing workshops, courses, and retreats. In 2024 Sandie will be running a workshop as part of the Chelsea Garden Fringe, and was one of the artists running creative workshops as part of Essex Council’s ‘East Coast Workshops’.
