Spoken Voice Workshop ***Event now full***

Develop your vocal confidence and stamina with voice coach, Morag Stark

Friday 12th April -  Sunday 14th April 2024

Space is available on this event

You are invited to join us for a creative weekend of freeing voice and speech-work. The workshops will be led Morag Stark, who will guide and support you through Nadine George Voicework, a practice which gives participants the opportunity to understand the connection between the voice and the body: improving confidence, physical awareness and greater understanding and control of the breath. The work uniquely uses sung sound to access the voice, which then continues through the spoken word.

Each session will begin with a releasing and energising pairs and group warm-up followed by individual voicework with Morag. You will then have the opportunity to carry the work forward into performing a piece of text of your own choosing or creation: a poem, a reading or a story - which you will be encouraged to share in the idyllic setting of the Othona Community. No previous performance experience is necessary.

Morag currently works at East 15 Acting School, University of Essex, training actors in Voice, Speech and Dialects for performance - she also coaches professional actors for TV, Film, Radio and Theatre. Her work has included BBC Radio 4, Netflix and National Theatre of Scotland. Morag is one of 20 internationally accredited teachers of Nadine George Voicework and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  She has over 30 years of voice-teaching experience which ranges from working with business, law and medical professionals as well as in schools, colleges and community organisations. Graduating initially from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Morag worked as a professional actor for 25 years in theatre, radio and screen. In 2013 she decided to immerse herself full time in her passion for the human voice and was awarded a scholarship for the MA Voice Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Morag is thankful to Othona for providing this exciting new workshop opportunity. She hopes it will bring individuals together to celebrate their own unique vocal identity and share their love of the spoken word in this very special environment
