Easter Celebration at Othona

Thursday 28th March -  Tuesday 2nd April 2024

Easter at Othona is always a special time, and this year it promises to be even more special. Revd Gemma Fraser will lead a programme which will be very family orientated with egg painting and rolling for children (and adults), baking competitions, arts and crafts and much more.

We start on Maundy Thursday with an agape meal (“Agape” is the New Testament Greek work for “self-giving love”. In the Christian tradition an“Agape” is also the name for informal meals and times of togetherness and mutual sharing
which remind us of all those meals Jesus shared with his friends and the unity that his Spirit continues to give us) in the evening. On Friday some might like to join the congregation from Bradwell village in their procession from St Thomas Church to St-Peter-on-the-Wall Chapel, where there will be a vigil service. On Easter Sunday we will join with people from the local area for a dawn service at the Chapel, followed by a cooked breakfast back at Othona.

We welcome requests from those wishing to stay for fewer days than the advertised events, just contact us to find out availability.

Gemma is a priest in the CofE but is happiest around the edges, she works full time as a Communities Officer, on projects that include skate parks, community pantries and wellbeing walks with llamas. She takes services and leads children's work in her home church in Suffolk and gets involved in wider initiatives such as Lightwave rural fresh expressions.  Gemma is married with 4 girls and is happiest with them all in the middle of a forest, on the beach or snuggled up in front of a fire with her crochet. Gemma was born and bred here in Essex and first came to Othona in 1995, but the family now live on the Suffolk/Norfolk border.
