Modern Day Slavery and Exploitation - Othona Lent Course
Some of us may already be aware of the issue of modern day slavery whilst for others it might be something we know little about. If you want to find out more and how we as individuals, or collectively as part of Othona, can be part of the solution please join us the Othona Community for our Lent course this year.
Clare Gough, our head of Trustees, Rev. Steve Barnes, and Richard and Debbie Sanders will be running ‘Women in the Shadows’, a course produced by the Clewer Initiative. (www.theclewerinitiative.org/womenintheshadows). The Clewer Initiative was set up to promote awareness of modern day slavery with the aim of mobilising the local church to end this hidden abomination in our society. This Lent the focus is on the different ways women and girls are exploited in the UK today.
Did you know:
- Most of us have slavery in our local communities.
- A third of all victims are women.
- Only 30% people are confident about spotting the signs of modern slavery.
This course runs for 5 weeks via Zoom on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30pm starting on the 25th February. There will be a short film each week, bible verse, reflection and prayer.
